Staff Appreciation Day...what a joke.01:47 Apr 28 2013

So - yesterday, everything at the school was shut down early for the annual Staff Apppreciation Day celebration...last year, it was held in the brand new athletic building. The food - Mexican - and the decor, was awesome. There were small gifts given (a pen and keychain set - whoopee), and a cool R&B band.
Fast forward to this year...EPIC FAIL.
For starters, it was held outside near the estuary...a beautiful spot, actually. And the weather was nice and warm. But unlike last year, there were no security persons to keep it strictly for employees, so a lot of students and people from the street got in. Many of them actually cut in line for food...good grief.
The decor was lame, as in almost non-existent. There were contortionists and jugglers performing, but where they were located, one could barely see them.
An old Chinese woman kept hovering around, snatching up bottles, even to the point of coming up to tables while people were eating. When she got to our table, we went off on her old ass. We asked Mai to tell her that we were having a private function, she had no business there, and it was rude of her to reach across the tables to snatch up bottles. Mai explain stuff to her, and the old bitch went off, cussin' us out in Cantonese. After her tirade, she stopped going for the bottles for a bit...she sat on the ground near us instead. I couldn't stop laughing.
The band was great - a different R&B band, but very good. There were no gift bags this year...and the food sucked. Where we had awesome Mexican food and desserts made by the baking students last year, we had the following yesterday:
- grilled cheese sandwiches, cut into cute lil' triangles
- corn, in which the cobs were cut into small circular pieces
- fish & chips, which was one piece of fish the size of a chicken nugget, and 5 - 6 thin-cut sweet potato fries in a cone
- hot dogs
- sliders (mini burgers) that were bland as fuck
- chicken drummettes, ie heated up Tyson Chicken from the bag
- a variety of ice cream - Hagen Das, Drumsticks, etc...all in varying stages of melting
ARE YOU FUCKIN' KIDDING ME?
The only saving grace were the desserts brought out later by our baking department.
And the rumor was that the event this year was catered by students from another school's culinary department...!!! We should have used our own!
Needless to say, I didn't eat much. And what little I ate, I'm still pushing that crap out of my system. Yuck.
